This noise has been going on for nearly 56 years
and I have been making it. It is my heartbeat. I have recorded about 70
beats. Think about it: at around 70 beats per minute and more sometimes,
it has been at it for 55 years, it has contracted and relaxed billions of
times without stopping. Do the calculation on your calculator:
70 beats x 60
minutes x 24 hours x 365.25 days x 56 years Each
beat has a double sound, they are the two sides of the heart beating
almost but not exactly at the same time. You can hear the noise made by
the bicuspid and tricuspid valves closing when the two ventricles
contract. You could calculate
how many times your own heart has beaten since it started, but do remember
it started a few months before you were born. Please be patient if
you want to hear my heartbeat, the file is about 156Kb Sorry about the
background noise, that is my computer system. If
you have a watch with a seconds hand, you can estimate the number of beats
per minute. Just count the number of beats in 10 seconds and multiply by
6, or count the number of beats in 15 seconds and multiply by 4.
Finally, you could download and
store 60 seconds of my life
on your hard disk: it is about half a Mbyte so it will take a couple of
minutes. |
