I actually hate greens and do my best to avoid them.
This may not be a good idea, but there it is. Don't do as I do, do as I say.
There are two important facts about greens. Firstly
they contain vitamins (if they have not been boiled for hours) and secondly,
they contain fibre. So what is the problem?
It is easy when you are young. Your parents or teachers
might tell you to eat them, but you know best. You don't like them so you avoid
them if at all possible. It is much more difficult when you are older. Now you
have a serious problem. How can you get your children to eat them?
You have three options:
- "Don't do as I do, do as I say" or
"I'm a grown-up and I know best".
- "They are good for you because they contain
vitamins and fibre."
- Don't bother.
Perhaps you can think of a better way. You know all the
scientific reasons why we should not eat junk food. You know what a balanced
diet should contain. Your children will just not be hungry at meal times because
they have eaten so many crisps and biscuits. "Stop their pocket money"
I hear you say, then they won't be able to buy the crisps. "Make sure that
school provides a proper meal."
